Hike around San Gimignano
We begin with this particularly beautiful hike through the typically Tuscan countryside in the immediate vicinity of San Gimignano. Covering a variety of different paths with some stunning views, such as that from Certaldo, we make our way to Sant’ Andrea and then to Cellole with the beautiful parish church, Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta. In time we follow the old pilgrims’ road, the Via Francigena, to San Gimignano itself.
The city is world famous for the great number of its extant towers, of which in most cities only the foundations remain, and because of its remarkable medieval ambience. The final leg towards the city is on metalled road.
Tip: Combine with "San Gimignano Short and Sweet”. After a break and some free time to stroll around we explore the small town and the cathedral. After another walk of around 20 mins we arrive at a winery, which produces the famous white wine of San Gimignano, Vernaccia. Wine-tasting optional.
