Tour to Poggibonsi
Poggibonsi – a town whose charms require a second look, and which can therefore be enjoyed undisturbed by large numbers of tourists.
Among the most beautiful buildings are the church of San Lorenzo from the 14th Century, the Palazzo Pretorio with many family crests on its façade, and the Collegiata with the bell tower which is in fact the keep of the former castle of Marturi. The treasures to be found inside the Collegiata include a "Resurrection" attributed to Vincenzo Tamagni, a well- known local 16th Century painter.
After visiting the town centre we explore the surrounding areas, starting with the imposing fortress of Poggio Imperiale, which was begun in the fifteenth century but never completed. We pass on to the Fountain of the Fairies with contemporary sculptures by Mimmo Paladino, and then to the beautiful church of San Lucchese, which contains a wealth of works of art. We round off the tour with a visit to the Castle of the Magione, which was donated to the Knights Templar in the 12th Century and is now a centre for cultural, artistic and spiritual activities.
